Swing Arm Arrived Today

The swing arm arrived today. I'll be taking this into the machine shop with me tomorrow to make a few modifications. My best estimate is:

  • Shave a few millimeters off each side so that the 900rr swinger will fit into the CB900 frame
  • Lathe a new pivot bolt
  • Order some new bearings (it looks like i finally get to use my new hydraulic press)

Then I should be ready to build the mounting bracket for the shock. ( I really ought to get some wheels soon too...)

CBR 900rr Swingarm Mod. Pt. 1

With the 900rr swingarm on order, I figured I would tackle the removal of the stock swingarm. My plan is to pull take measurements from the outer edge of the swingarm with the little caps on the end and machine the 900rr swinger to the same dimensions. It should be centered, but I will know after I take some calipers to it.

Also, I'm not sure of the final geometry for the rear suspension. I am going to start designing the mount for the monoshock but make it so that I can weld the actual bracket for the shock on in one piece as the last step. This way I can mock up the whole suspension and really commit when I am positive that it is mounted exactly right.

Just waiting on my parts....

I want to use 5 spoke RC51 wheels but they cost 2x what 6 spoke 900rr wheels cost. We'll see what I come up with.
