I am glad to see Diesel engines catching on in the Street Rod world. I have been building conventional Street Rods in my shop for 30 years. I have recently made the transition to Diesel powered Street Rods. They just make more sense in the economic times we are in. They look trick and have abundance of torque, and still get great fuel milage.

I've been promoting the diesel as an alternative hot rod powerplant since 2003, and even Custom Rodder Magazine caught on and published a concept of mine back in 2005 (dig out your July issue from that year). Tons of potential, loads of power, and certainly almost infinitely tunable from your laptop.
I'd be remiss in leaving out that you'd certainly be unique at rod runs, rumbling through a sea of belly-button small blocks and LS-motors with a tuned smoker between the rails... Consider the number of aftermarket tuners and parts out there for these, and you could build a budget diesel quite easily with some imagination!

I think it could be a new trend. Good mpg, huge torque, lots of truck motors that outlasted their truck body's, its a great way to modify your hot rod or cruiser!
