Internet “Barn Find” #6: British Steam Car Challenge

August 1, 2009 by Hechtspeed · Leave a Comment

Speedweek begins this week (7 days and counting).  For this Internet Barn Find, we go across the pond to scope out a Steam Powered Streamliner.  Check out  British Steam Car Challenge website.  Take a few minutes and read up on this beauty of a racecar.

Bonneville - British Steam Powered Land Speed Racer

The record for a steam powered land vehicle stands at 127.659 MPH according to this site.  The crazy part is this record was set in 1906.  It’s about time this record gets beaten, don’t you think?  Another tid bit of information from the steam car’s website is the unofficial (not recognized by FIA) steam powered record is 145.607 MPH set in 1985, and that is the record the British Team is shooting for.

Check out this youtube video linked from their site too.  Sounds crazy!!!

“Internet Barn Find” #4: Rare American Made Cars

June 13, 2009 by Hechtspeed · Leave a Comment

1958 Mercury Turnpike1954 Chrysler Thunderbolt

So, I was “stumbling” around on StumbleUpon, a cool search tool/website where you can tell it what you’re interested in and just hit the stumble button. I stumbled upon “Rare American Made Autos” page. Here’s a quick quote from the website that explains what the Red Scarf Club is. Of all places to find cool pictures of rare American cars, an artilleryman’s website!? Car Nuts are everywhere!

“The RED SCARF name comes from the color of the artilleryman’s parade neck scarves. (ie; The infantry color is blue, the engineers – green, the artillery – red, and so on. Each section of the army, has its own designated color.)

Our present day club was loosley formed by a small group of 553rd FA Bn veterans, their wives, friends and familys, to get together once or twice a year in Branson, Missouri for a “Dinner and a Show”, and share old “War Stories” – as we call them – and each others company, for a couple of days.”

Here’s some teaser pics…if you can name any one of these cars, well…you’re just sick! ha ha Try out StumbleUpon and tells us about a cool car related website you dig and maybe we’ll make it an “Internet Barn Find”. You can also give a “thumbs up” to your favorite MyRideisMe.com stories. Until then, enjoy these crazy cool rare American rides.

“Internet Barn Finds #3″: 70′s Funny Cars

June 2, 2009 by Hechtspeed · 1 Comment

For #3, MyRideisMe.com went in search of Nostalgia Funny Cars.  We scored a great find when we discovered the  www.70sfunnycars.com website in our internet search.  The website itself is vintage too, as it was established in 1998…was the internet even around back then? Ha Ha

70s Funny Cars

“Remember when Funny Cars actually resembled their street driven cousins?

Real Funny Cars, and not show cars, actually appeared at car shows?

Funny Cars had names, showed up to the races on open ramp trucks, and used tow cars often supplied by spectators after the crowd was pulsed by the track announcer for “volunteers?”

This Vintage Funny Car website has many hidden jewels and is sure to bring back memories!  You’ll need a couple hours to soak in all this ‘Nostalgia’.  We’ll launch into more in the future from 70sFunnyCars.com…we’ve only just gone through the waterbox and started our 1st burnout (…”Remember when Funny Cars would do 5 burnouts”)!

Have your own pictures or stories about your favorite Nostalgia Funny Car from ‘back in the day’?

“Internet Barn Finds” #1: Miniature Hot Rod Engines

April 21, 2009 by Hechtspeed · 5 Comments

Before I dive in, let me introduce myself real quick.  I go by Hechtspeed on all the car forums I join.  I’m a certified car nut.  It doesn’t matter what type of car, if its modified and customized, I can dig it.  I’m really excited to be blogging for MyRideisMe.  Hopefully I can bring cool content that you readers will enjoy.  Weber supercharged V8 5.655 ci for scale hot rods. So, let’s get to it shall we?  The internet is home to thousands, even millions of websites. That means there has to be cool websites out there displaying hidden hot rod treasures. This “Internet Barn Finds” series of blogs will venture into the world wide interweb to see what we can find.

Part 1 takes a look at a couple cool Scale Miniature Hot Rod engines. These are not your typical scale plastic model kits you put together during Christmas vacation, these are billet aluminum, high precision, CNC machined engines that actually run, some even powering 1/4 scale radio controlled hot rods.

Weber Supercharger for scale hot rod engineThe first Barn Find is from weberprecision.com. Searching through Weber’s website you’ll find detailed pictures of both the end product and the tools/machines used to build it. Said engine is this amazing supercharged V8 that took a few years to build. Weber says this is his first attempt at a running miniature engine. I say it was a successful one for sure. The horsepower is unknown, but this little sucker revs to 12,000 RPMs! Yeeehaa!

It displaces 5.655 ci using a 1.000″ Bore and 0.900″ stroke topped off by a supercharger. Check out the rest of the spec sheet, its a work of art. See the video: YouTube Preview Image

Conley Stinger 609 for 1/4 scale hot rodsThe second Barn Find is conleyprecision.com, a link from weberprecision.com. Stinger 609 miniature V8 Supercharged engine in 1/4 scale T-bucketConley has quite a history of building running scale miniature hot rod engines… try 30 years! Conley’s website has some nice videos of his latest miniature engine. The coolest part about this engine is it’s mounted in a driving, miniature hot rod. You’ll get a kick out of these video’s. I just kept shaking my head in amazement!

Conley’s latest Supercharged V8 is called the Stinger 609 (named after the cubic inches, but be careful where you place the decimal point, that’s 6.09 ci ha ha) Enjoy! YouTube Preview ImageThat’s all for “Internet Barn Finds”. Post up in the MyRideisMe Forums your own hot rod Internet Barn Finds!
