Drivetrain:
289/C4, '63 Sprint 8" rear end.
Chassis:
V8 front suspension, '65 Falcon V8 steering, Granada disc brakes, beefy front and rear stabilizer bars, nuts, bolts, brackets, gadgets, and widgets.
Wheels & Tires:
Astro Supremes mounting '03 Merc Marauder center caps, 520-14 Lowrider series bias ply Sportway tires.
Body:
Pure black, Viper silver roof with flake added.
Interior:
Custom pattern with V motif in backrests, black and white vinyl with silver piping, uplevel trim and armrests added from later year cars. Wanted an upscale early '60s look, not too fancy but not plain either.

1960 Comet 2dr wagon. Kinda rare, they tell me. I was going for a mid '60s mild custom look, like what you might...

Humble beginnings

Circa 1988 - orig. black paint, bolt-action six banger, crispy-fried interior from years as Arizona lawn art.

Patiently waiting for 17+ years.

The teardown - leave just enough four lug junk to roll and steer it with, everything else comes off inside and out.

Just after paint. Now the fun begins.

At this point, everyone you know says "Uh, are you sure you know how to put that back together?"

"Hmm, I don't know..."

"We'll just have to see if the jigsaw puzzle still has the right pieces."

"Why, yes, it looks like it can be made to once again resemble a car."

Chassis coming together.

Moving right along...

Just have to make a few one-off pieces like these sectioned bump stop cups for lowered suspension travel...

And this custom trans crossmember...

And keep adding things to the outside...

...And inside...

...And underside...

...Until it can move from the shop to the driveway under it's own power for the first time.

Unique taillights never fail to get a comment or two from the Falcon guys.

It settled a good 1/2 inch more earthward from this pic.

First show, the 2nd semi-annual Mesa cruise.

Gee Craig, that thing ought to be looking pretty stand-up about now. I think we need another blog update on it, bro. -Mike

Great shot, Swanee! Love the angle, the lens distortion, lighting, and composition. Pics like that remind me that I am *so* not a photographer. -MP

In the few years I have known Mike, I have found him to be "very knowledgable" when it comes to anything in the form of a Falcon or Comet. He is a perfectionist that appreciates a good custom build as much as he does the restorer approach. If you get a chance to meet him at the Scottsdale or Mesa Pavillions I am sure you will be impressed with the amount of knowledge he has and is willing to share!

That's just too awesome! Ya gotta like the fact that it's a super rarely seen, no one else has type car (they win every time in my book). I'd love to see the interior pics and gander at how those upgrades mesh. I love it, ya lucky duck!
