Drivetrain:
Stock 2.3L. It runs! The 1st stage of cleaning revealed something that I'd never seen or heard of before - a little window in the carburetor that lets you see if there's fuel in it or not!

Chassis:
Stock
Wheels & Tires:
4 flat R14's. The spare was the only one that held air. Too bad there was only 1.

Body:
Rusty yellow with mossy green highlights. I expect to find rust under the moss. The plan is to spray it with herbicide, sand and grind the rust off, patch the holes using found materials (4 license plates so far) and then coat the whole damned thing in bed liner.
Interior:
Stock. What's left of it. I want to replace the bench seat with buckets, install a push button ignition, and shorten the steering column to open up the driver's area a little.

I bought Harold for $100.00, delivered. After cleaning him out I was $4.00 richer in pocket change.

Harold, the next step

Logically is to check out the engine, now that I've cleaned out everything else. What a Concept! From the looks of things this hasn't happened in this decade. After2 sessions on de-gunk -ifying I discovered 2 loose bell housing bolts, 1 missisng bolt and a broken oil filler cap.

What a drag! I decided tonot change the oil untill I made those repairs.

A new begining

So I've never, in the 45+ years on this planet, really been a 'Car Guy'. I work a full time job so that I can do stuff that I like to do ( Bicycles, guns, home brewing, grilling, Irish folk music) and then if I need to have my rig worked on, I gladly keep my mechanic employed. He's a good guy, runs an honest business and is always (and I've done my homework) on target with prices.

Then some guy ( On the Freakbike militia.com boards) posted pics of the auto-rama in Detroit (?). Hmmm. Sparks started igniting in my itty - bitty little military mind!

I'm not sure what my style is. Something along the lines of Rat Rod, but I'm not diggin' the red hub caps. Maybe hot rod, but I can barely do a tune up. I don't know what a HAMB is, and I'm tall enough that I don't want to lower/ chop it. Is 'red neck' a style?

It seems like a step in a new direction that could improve my bike building skills, and possibly be a source of further bonding with my son. I bought this truck from a fella that's in the same band as he is. It came with enough garbage to fill my ( chest - high) trash bin, and crappy tires.

At this point, I'm happy to have gotten the outside scrubbed clean so that I can assess what needs to be done in the way of body work. Next I'll clean the engine compartment of it's oil deposits and see what I need to do to make Harold go fast enough to drive on the highway.

Feel free to leave comments, it's how I learn stuff!

1980 Ford Courier 2.3L

As you can see it needs a new windshield and a good scrubbing.

Previous owners' work

I'm pointing at a section that was 'repaired' by spraying insulating foam into the body panel and then painting over it.

Not caused by lasers

It's fun repairing this kinda stuff, right?

On the other side

Just one of the many wasps nests that were found.

In floor ventillation

Looks like I'll be needing more old license plates.

Thanks Kastoo! I'm thinking about covering the whole exterior in the DIY bedliner paint once I patch the holes in the body.

When you tune up the motor with new plug wires, plugs and maybe even a cap and rotor..pay the extra money to try those new E3 spark plugs..I heard they rock. Also if you ever someday have to replace the motor..see about the possibility of putting in one of those Turbo 4 Cylinders that come out of Mid 80's Thunderbirds and Ford Rangers.

Thanks for the comment in my garage. You asked for thoughts: For starters...in my Internationals..I removed the rust from the bed insides...roughed up (not removed the existing paint) and painted the bed and bed sides a fresh coat of black..I used a brush just for a texture look.

Thanks! I'll take your word for it that it's not in bad shape as it's my 1st project. Thanks for the 'not seen everyday' points!
