Ford Custom "My 1st T "
Small block Chevy bored and stroked to 389" with a "shoe box" tunnel ram, 2x500 cfm Holleys, Mondello heads, Isky cam, tricked powerglide, 4:88's, 1100x16 rollers, This motor was finished just in time to go on the run at 4AM. It ran great until I got back to Phnx. I went to a new 711 type store and when I came out and started it it went full throttle and scattered! I looked up to see 2 boys running across the gravel lot, That's when I saw the gravel all in the velocety stacks - good thing I didn't carry a gun! I also ran it with a real Z-28 302 and a built 327.
Chassis:
Home built frame in single-car parking space at USCG Station Humbolt Bay, CA. I cut it out with a hand-held hack saw and welded it with very old US govt gas engine gen/welder set. Unique features were an un-flipped Corvair box with bellcrank in the drag-link, custom axle and wishbones by Auto Machine. I had a trailer hitch welded to the axle housing and towed all kinds of stuff. Got a lot of looks with that!
Wheels & Tires:
Bigs and littles. Bought the rears, 11:00x16 on Ansens, with a month's worth of paychecks from working for Johnny Loper. I was his first employee.
Body:
Fiberglass with Ember Fire Mist paint and shag carpet interior with a metal flake clear plastic dash panel. It was a great pool-hopper and I never worried about getting it wet. I ran an original T gas tank and a Modle A tail light w/ Dietz lamps up front.
Interior:
All warm and fuzzy -
My 1st T at Lake Pleasant 1971I ran this car for 2 years (1970 to 1972) around Phoenix as my main driver. I used to...
