About Rattle Kan Rides

Rattle Kan Rides became official on July 24th of 2009! One day while sitting in the garage drinking beer my wife to be and I started talking about what it would be like to open a garage or build a shop and live in it and do nothing but work on race cars and rat rods. After several 100's and 1000's of cases of Corona's and Pacifico's and basically any beer that was on sale and arguments and black outs we decided to quit drinking and go to AA.

Next I was talking with a friend about how my significant other and I would like to start a club for trucks. From there we started to come up with ideas for what kind of trucks we would allow and what kind of regulations the trucks would have to meet. I myself love everything about the Rat Rod culture and stood back one day and realized that regulations suck and none of us have any money for elaborate vehicles.

This is when Rattle Kan Rides took off. While racing sprint cars and pavement modifieds I remember trying to get a bumper painted one day for my Modified and an automotive painter quoted me 250 bones for a plain gloss black finish. I thought to my self, "I could go to WalMart and buy a can of Spray paint and paint this bumper for 2 dollars." That is what I did and the quality of paint you can get these days is not that bad compared to the days of old. Not to mention I was just going to destroy that bumper the first time someone got in my way any way.

So over the years I started using cheap spray paint. I would just say, "I am going to rattle can that." I started paying attention to  all of the Rat Rods that were popping up and the more rust and odd the car or truck was the better it seemed to be. The idea of taking what you had and making it work to build a vehicle seemed to be cost effective and fun at the same time not to mention there is an entire culture that thrives on this. I had a 62 VW Bug and when the black primer would fade I would spay off the dust and paint away and I instantly had a brand new car. This was something that I was fascinated by. I could cover up greasy finger prints bug stains you name it and it was cheap. Just make the Engine look cool and Rattle Kan the rest.

Next I presented the Idea to wife to be that we should call our club Rattle Kan Rides and spell can with a K and make the n back words just to add our own flavor to the name. So we did so and hired a company to handle the incorporation and as of 07/24/2009 we were incorporated by the State of California. Since then we joined the Stockton Chamber of Commerce and I am at this time filling out and gathering the required material for the 501(c)3 filing for the IRS. We are going to be a Non Profit Organization. It is a lot of work and dedication but so far we are doing it and we have done everything out of our own pocket. We have 15 adult members and 5 kid members. % of the adults make up our Board of Directors.

Remember back when I said we were discussing rule and regulations. Well there are enough rules and regulations so we threw almost all of that crap out and opened the club to everyone and every vehicle. We don't care what color your skin is or how old or new your car is or if it is American, Chinese Japanese Russian, Korean or even Mexican1 We don't care at all. You can ride a skate board or bicycle or Motorcycle. We just want to have fun and hang out!

If you are interested check out our web site at www.rattlekanrides.com and let me know. All the contact info is there. Membership fee is bring food and as soon as I finish the logo what ever it cost to put our logo on your article of clothing is what you pay. We are not going to make money off of you. It is that easy. We are going to give money raised at events to people less fortunate than we are. That is going to be hard because we are pretty dang poor ourselves. We do have a roof over our head and a couple of old trucks and a street bike that I keep wishing would turn into a Harley. Just checked a little while ago and it is still a GSXR 750. Any way it could be worse and I enjoy what I have and hope everyone else will do the same.
