With Houston\u2019s long history in the oil and gas industry, there&#8217;s no shortage of high-end euros, Maserati\u2019s, Porsches, etc. lining the streets. But take one Gambino Kustoms built, traditionally styled 1940 Chevy Coupe scrapin\u2019 the pavement and those same euros-rides suddenly fade as the spotlight shifts to the kustom and whatever tunes happening to be pouring out of the windows.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/burl-40-front-3-4-shot-WEB-SIZE3.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[16683]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17017\" style=\"margin: 4px; border: black 2px solid;\" title=\"40 Chevrolet Custom, Chevy Custom, 40 Chevy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/burl-40-front-3-4-shot-WEB-SIZE3.jpg\" border=\"2\" alt=\"1940 chevy business coupe,chevs of the 40s, 40 Coupe\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" width=\"579\" height=\"384\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Burl picked up the Chevy coupe from famed builder Alex Gambino of <a href=\"http:\/\/gambinocustoms.com\/\">Gambino Kustoms<\/a> of San Jose, CA. As with anything that rolls out of Gambino\u2019s shop, the &#8217;40 followed a methodical build with heavy attention to the even the most mundane detail&#8230; But that\u2019s what sets the great kustoms apart from the good ones \u2013 the details. Details like a channel so deep the running boards touch the ground when the air bags are completely deflated.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/burl-40-front-back-34-shot1.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[16683]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17022\" style=\"margin: 4px; border: black 2px solid;\" title=\"40 Custom Coupe, Custom Chevrolet, 40 Chevy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/burl-40-front-back-34-shot1.jpg\" border=\"2\" alt=\"Custom 40 Coupe, Chevrolet Coupe Custom, 1940 business coupe\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" width=\"580\" height=\"365\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Styling cues such as shaved door handles and badges add traditional touches to the coupe, and the retention of certain trim pieces such as those along the hood, doors and rear quarter highlight the vision and eye for detail of the builder. The door panels, floor boards and headliner have all been refinished in black as well. When shooting with natural light, as photographer Trent Sherrill prefers, timing is everything. But&#8230; every so often the car gods smile down on you and deliver warm sun, a secluded pier, and just enough cloud cover to give you the right amount of light.
