He\u2019s been building hot rods for most his adult life, and he has always indulged himself in the unorthodox.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But when contemplating Uncle Jed he told his chassis builder, \u201cLet\u2019s have one last adventure into the unknown. I\u2019m reaching a point in my life (58) when I don\u2019t anticipate foolin\u2019 with 200mph cars much longer.\u201d So this was how he approached his latest creation: a 1,900hp big-inch Pro Stock-powered road-legal Rat Rod. \u201cMind you,\u201d said Killian, \u201cI\u2019m hesitant about calling Uncle Jed a Rat Rod because some Rat Rodders take offense. They\u2019re adamant that it\u2019s not low-buck enough, but obviously there\u2019s not enough gleaming paint on it to call it a hotrod.\u201d So its genre is uncertain.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What is certain, however, is that Uncle Jed was constructed using a 1928 Ford Model A 2-door sedan body mounted on a twin-rail chrome molybdenum drag race chassis with a front-mounted 14-gallon fuel tank between its rails and wheelie bars at the back.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/RatRod-rear-web.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[23633]\"><img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23637\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" title=\"Rad Rod? In so doing the cowl accentuates the impressive proportions of a Kaase 820cu in Mountain Motor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mickey Thompson 33in tall x 10.5 x 16w rear tires mounted on 16in wide rims and 275 x 15in fronts on 3.5in rims are separated by Uncle Jed\u2019s 130.5in wheelbase. To transmit the power, ATI prepared a special Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission. Mark Williams handled the rear end requirements with floater axles and carbon fiber discs and pads.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/RatRod-Front-web.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[23633]\"><img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23636\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" title=\"Pro Stock Rat Rodder\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/RatRod-Front-web.jpg\" alt=\"rat rods, drag racer, mountain motor\" width=\"575\" border=\"2\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/RatRod-Front-web.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/RatRod-Front-web-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/RatRod-Front-web-575x381.jpg 575w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With Robert in the driver\u2019s seat, Uncle Jed weighs 2820lbs. \u201cMuch of its original paint still exists,\u201d explains Killian. \u201cBack then they were brushed by hand apparently, as paint booths didn\u2019t exist in 1928.\u201d Interestingly, the chassis rails remain unpainted. \u201cI like that raw, unfinished look and I\u2019ll maintain it by wiping it down with WD40 twice a year. It fits the theme of the car.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Work on the center section of the roof was completed by substituting a sheet metal pressing from a Dodge Caravan for the original canvas top. Uncle Jed also sports a sun visor from a 1931 Model A. \u201cI raised it by 3\/8in at the back to promote airflow.
