In tiny Pierce, Nebraska exists a cache of 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s era Chevrolets (and assorted other models), many of which were never sold by the dealer. On\u00a0September 27\u00a0the public will be allowed, for the very first time, to view and touch these 500+ vehicles. And now she has to pull all the details\u00a0together to make this auction something memorable and worthwhile for the family who has\u00a0agreed to make these vehicles available.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve managed to put in 100-110 hour weeks pretty much every week since June 15,\u201d says VanDerBrink,\u00a0standing outside the former Lambrecht Chevrolet\u00a0Company building in downtown Pierce. \u201cJust this\u00a0auction alone has required extremely long days recovering the vehicles from multiple locations, clearing<br \/>\ntrees and land to transport the vehicles to the auction site and getting vehicles out of covered storage\u00a0where many of them have sat for over 40 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But VanDerBrink is determined to do this event the right way and you\u2019re convinced she is fully hands on\u00a0when you notice her hands are scabbed and marked from crawling in and out of hundreds of vintage\u00a0vehicles, pulling and shoving where necessary, to get everything not only positioned but properly\u00a0documented so potential buyers will know what they&#8217;re buying.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 3-4 hours per night sleep wears on you,\u201d she explains, \u201cbut I\u2019ve not lost that enthusiasm for\u00a0creating the very best environment to sell vehicles for my customers. That is my responsibility and I\u00a0believe these auctions aren\u2019t just sales, but events of major importance to the sellers.\u201d\u00a0So a typical VanDerBrink auction will have all the details worked out well ahead of the day when that\u00a0first gavel falls and the sales begin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-24713\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" title=\"Lambrecht Chevrolet  Auction Layout - A Field in Nebraska\" alt=\"Lambrecht Chevrolet, classic Chevy auction, classic car auction\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Lambrecht-Chevrolet-auction-nebraska-b.jpg\" width=\"575\" height=\"304\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She admits the Lambrecht auction is very unusual. \u201cIt\u2019s like a mystery novel, full of intrigue and twisting\u00a0story lines,\u201d she describes. It has taken months to unravel the story of this small town dealer who had a\u00a0particular way of doing business. \u201cAnd he did it well,\u201d she says. \u201cIn many cases, extremely well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ray Lambrecht was a Chevrolet dealer in Pierce for 50 years. He never wavered from his one price\u00a0strategy of selling cars. \u201cWhen you dealt with Ray, you took his price or you took nothing. He was\u00a0adamant about that part of the sale and the majority of people who bought from him over the years\u00a0found he was inevitably the dealer with the best deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lambrecht and wife Mildred operated the little dealership with the help of a single mechanic. He would\u00a0inventory cars for buyers to inspect, he would accept trade-in vehicles and he would provide a single\u00a0\u201ctake it or leave it\u201d price. An awful lot of people took his price and drove away with new cars.\u00a0<strong>\u201cHe might be considered a little odd because he refused to sell the trade-ins,\u201d<\/strong> says VanDerBrink. \u201cHe\u00a0just felt that a new vehicle was the best thing he could offer and he wanted to offer nothing less.\u201d So the\u00a0trade-ins, some of them with very few miles on them, ended up being parked, awaiting their time when\u00a0they would finally surface.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-24713\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" title=\"Lambrecht Chevrolet  Auction Layout - A Field in Nebraska\" alt=\"Lambrecht Chevrolet, classic Chevy auction, classic car auction\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Lambrecht-Chevrolet-auction-nebraska-c.jpg\" width=\"575\" height=\"198\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The vehicles, mostly Chevy cars and Chevy trucks, were spread around the area in and near Pierce. Some were in buildings\u00a0and some were parked on land Lambrecht had outside of town where he rented it to tenant farmers.\u00a0\u201cEventually it became apparent that he could no longer hold onto these cars and trucks,\u201d explains\u00a0VanDerBrink. \u201cBut they were his babies and he has been hesitant to let them go, until now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So VanDerBrink\u2019s job has been to recover all these vehicles and get them ready for a sale that could\u00a0draw 6,000 to 10,000 people to Pierce, where there is nary a hotel or motel for anyone to stay. \u201cLodging\u00a0has been booked up all the way to Sioux City, Iowa\u201d says VanDerBrink. \u201cFor car people, this is the\u00a0mother lode of barn finds and it may be one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.\u201d\u00a0And what makes the opportunity even more exceptional is Lambrecht not only kept the trade-ins but\u00a0also the leftover vehicles that didn\u2019t sell each year. \u201cIf Ray didn\u2019t sell all the vehicles during a particular\u00a0model year,\u201d explains VanDerBrink, \u201che simply kept them. Once the new models were introduced, the\u00a0prior year models would not be sold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Which means he has vehicles which have never been titled and have as few as a single mile showing on\u00a0the odometer. \u201cThat really has people excited,\u201d says VanDerBrink. In some cases those vehicles are rare,\u00a0like the 1958 Cameo pickup with 1.3 miles showing. \u201cChevrolet made very few of those and to find one\u00a0that was never sold\u2026?\u201d VanDerBrink just shrugs in wonder.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-24713\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" title=\"Lambrecht Chevrolet  Auction Layout - A Field in Nebraska\" alt=\"Lambrecht Chevrolet, classic Chevy auction, classic car auction\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Lambrecht-Chevrolet-auction-nebraska-d.jpg\" width=\"575\" height=\"182\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So has this auction company owner been surprised or overwhelmed by this sale? \u201cI\u2019ve done larger\u00a0auctions,\u201d she says, describing her 12 years in the business conducting auctions in 14 states and\u00a0handling everything from collectible vehicles to ag equipment to farm land. \u201cIn an Ohio auction we\u00a0transported over five semi-truck loads of items to a location, documented them and got them ready for\u00a0sale,\u201d she says. \u201cSo this isn\u2019t the largest auction I\u2019ve handled. These sales involve a lot of emotion,\u201d she explains. \u201cIn most cases the vehicles or equipment represent\u00a0an entire lifetime of labor and effort. It\u2019s not an easy decision to let these things go and I understand\u00a0that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>VanDerBrink is a rural Minnesota \u201ckid\u201d who grew up around farm equipment and cars. She describes\u00a0herself as a car person and understands the excitement people have for automobiles that have been\u00a0part of our lives during the past 50-60 years. \u201cI\u2019m a little unusual being a part of what traditionally has\u00a0been a very male dominated business,\u201d she says. \u201cI\u2019ve had to learn every aspect of this business and\u00a0establish my reputation as a trusted auction seller. I think I\u2019ve earned that reputation and I intend to\u00a0always do things the right way.\u201d\u00a0VanDerBrink quotes a scripture verse she believes reflects her Midwest upbringing and roots. \u201dI adopted\u00a0Galatians 6:9,10 some years ago which essentially says, \u2018Let\u2019s not be weary in doing good, for at the\u00a0proper time we will reap a harvest if we don\u2019t give up. As we have opportunity, let us do good to all people.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As VanDerBrink heads out for another round of media interviews and putting together further\u00a0instructions for her crew, you get the feeling this is someone who rarely gives up on anything, no matter\u00a0how big the challenge might be.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As a teaser, here&#8217;s a <a title=\"1958 Chevy
