Ahhh&#8230; maybe it&#8217;s time we changed our minds! I&#8217;ve got a couple more hot rods from SEMA Show 2013 to share with you! This one&#8217;s from our friends at <a title=\"Hot Rod and Custom cars in Kansas\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chaoticustoms.com\/content\/index.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"no follow\">Chaotic Customs<\/a>\u00a0in Kansas. Owners Chris and Karma Carlson hooked up with NAPA Auto Parts and\u00a0Martin Senour Paints to have the freshly done hot rod pickup in their SEMA booth. When Mike saw the 1940 Ford, Mike said confidently, <a title=\"Chaotic Customs SEMA Build Vintage Ford Pickup\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/chaotic-customs-sema-build-1940-ford\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;You can&#8217;t drink it pretty!&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0(turns out that wasn&#8217;t quite true&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The story&#8217;s your typical &#8220;barn find&#8221; truck out of Mulvane, Kansas that was&#8230; was going to be a nice driver. &#8220;It got out of hand&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-SEMA-1940-hot-rod-pickup-3.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[25162]\"><img class=\"alignnone  wp-image-25177\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" title=\"1940 Ford Hot Rod Pickup by Chaotic Customs at SEMA 2013\" alt=\"SEMA Show 2013, hot rods, 1940 Ford Hot Rod Pickup\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-SEMA-1940-hot-rod-pickup-3.jpg\" width=\"575\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When you review all the <a title=\"Chaotic Customs SEMA Build Vintage Ford Pickup\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/chaotic-customs-sema-build-1940-ford\/\" target=\"_blank\">build pictures<\/a>, you&#8217;ll start to see all the customizing work done by Chris totaling 200 body mods. After trying some body work myself, I&#8217;m most impressed on how smooth and straight the bodywork is, especially under the harsh lights of the convention center. All the welds and new or repaired panels needed to widen the rear fenders 1.25 inches and stretch 12 inches fade into a sea of custom made blue paint called, &#8220;Bankrupt Blue&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-SEMA-1940-hot-rod-pickup-4.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[25162]\"><img class=\"alignnone  wp-image-25177\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" title=\"1940 Ford Hot Rod Pickup by Chaotic Customs at SEMA 2013\" alt=\"SEMA Show 2013, hot rods, 1940 Ford Hot Rod Pickup\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-SEMA-1940-hot-rod-pickup-4.jpg\" width=\"575\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a great shot of those custom rear fenders&#8230; those are dual<a title=\"Resto-Custom 1959 Cadillac\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/1959-custom-restoration-cadillac\/\" target=\"_blank\"> 1959 Cadillac<\/a> taillights frenched in<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After chopping the cab 4 inches and sectioning 2.5 inches, it was stretched 5 inches for a little more room inside. All that maneuvering forced the Chaotic gang to make a new rolled top from about midway back, all the way past the custom curved rear glass. Bucket seats match the leather used on the door panels and roof. A tilt column sits in a custom dash holding center mounted digital gauges. Keeping it in the family, Chris and Karma&#8217;s 14 year old son did the pinstriping. Looking closely, the lines are thin, even and slick. The boy&#8217;s got a future! Karma tells me he&#8217;s made enough money pinstriping to start work on his own truck. He&#8217;ll be styling when he&#8217;s old enough to drive!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Not shown is all the detailed pinstriping on the frame. Great builders and quite the jokers too! Ask them their favorite ideas for terrorizing the cleaning crew at hotels on the way back to Kansas!
