son and friend.\u00a0 Jim grew up as Larry&#8217;s youngest son&#8217;s friend and was given the chance to drive. This Ghia is obviously not Larry&#8217;s first car, Larry has raced bikes, a belly tank lakester, another Ghia and even the family sedan.\u00a0 Larry&#8217;s other\u00a0Ghia over the years racing on the Salt became too rusty to race.\u00a0 It was sold to a gentleman from across the pond and was appropriately restored.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/World-Finals-2009-14.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[5618]\"><img class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5624\" style=\"margin: 4px; border: black 2px solid;\" title=\"This Ghia has been around since at least 2002 and runs both salt and dirt tracks\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/World-Finals-2009-14-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"This Ghia has been around since at least 2002 and runs both salt and dirt tracks\" width=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/World-Finals-2009-14-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/World-Finals-2009-14-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/World-Finals-2009-14-400x265.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/World-Finals-2009-14.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>This\u00a0yellow\u00a0Ghia, as you can see from the Bonneville stickers on the fender, has been coming out since at least 2002.\u00a0 There&#8217;s also an El Mirage decal or two.\u00a0 Larry is 82 years old now and lives for this stuff says Jim.\u00a0 Larry has a degenerative eye condition and has had some surgeries already.\u00a0 His eyesight is such that he can&#8217;t drive anymore.\u00a0 But Larry spends the off season prepping the car and getting ready to run.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/World-Finals-2009-19.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[5618]\"><img class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5625\" style=\"margin: 4px; border: black 2px solid;\" title=\"A shot of the Ghia's interior with cage, fire extinguisher, race bucket and aluminum door panels\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/World-Finals-2009-19-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"A shot of the Ghia's interior with cage, fire extinguisher, race bucket and aluminum door panels\" width=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/World-Finals-2009-19-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/World-Finals-2009-19-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/World-Finals-2009-19-400x265.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/World-Finals-2009-19.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Larry has owned a big VW wrecking yard for years and thus, has all he needs to piece together a race car.\u00a0 He uses a turbocharged 1497 cc watercooled destroked Rabbit\/Golf inline 4 cylinder and runs in the H\/BAGC class (H = 1.01-1.50 Liter, B = Blown, A = altered, G = gas, C = coupe).\u00a0 Larry\u00a0set the\u00a0record for the H\/BAGC class at Speedweek 2009 and blew his own record out of the water today (10\/10\/2009)\u00a0with a two run average of 164.158 MPH.\u00a0 Congratulations!\u00a0\u00a0The car is\u00a0a 1968 or &#8217;69 according to Jim, runs AEM ecu tuning, has a ram air box in the rear\u00a0quarter window to a water to air intercooler with an icebox.\u00a0 Up front sits an MG radiator, a VW\u00a05 speed transmission connected to a vw aircooled transaxle\u00a0via a homemade adapter plate\u00a0Larry had cast, using a wood plate he made himself.\u00a0 Wow!<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myrideisme.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/World-Finals-2009-22.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[5618]\"><img class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5626\" style=\"margin: 4px; border: black 2px solid;\" title=\"The supporting crew, Larry's sons, wife and what's that?
