The Winningest Competition Cobra in History “DragonSnake”

posted by pikesan

Shelby Cobra DragonSnake, CSX2093 All photos used with permission from Mecum Auctions Out of six pictures in this story, it was tough to pick one to lead with. In the end, I chose this one to feature one of the baddest drag race cars ever, the Shelby Cobra DragonSnake. Note the knockoff slicks in the back, the slight nose-in-the-air stance and finally that open header pipe looking right into my soul. I need to hear this serpent run! This photo was a close second! DESCRIPTION provided by Mecum Auctions CSX 2093 was the 93rd Cobra built and is one of only eight cars modified with the Shelby-developed Dragonsnake package designed to maximize drag racing performance. Depending on options, the package could swell the bottom line to a whopping $8,990, a huge sum in 1960s-era dollars. Owned by Jim Costilow and piloted by drag racer Bruce Larson, later of USA-1 Funny Car fame, the Dragonsnake dominated the NHRA’s A/SP, AA/SP, B/SP and C/SP classes in 1964. It set all new records in the 1965 season and won the NHRA Springnationals, Winternationals and U.S. Indy Nationals that year. The Cobra was...

Most Wicked Shelby Cobra Ever – the Daytona Coupe

posted by pikesan

How rare is your chance to lay hands on a car a rare and historic as the CSX2601 Shelby Daytona Coupe? I had a chance thanks to the folks at Mecum Auctions, but the great people of Maricopa county thought it better for me to be in jury duty. Here's Mecum's press release and info about the car. They also provided a fantastic gallery of pictures. I'll be watching to see how high into the "8 Figures" this car rises. 1 of 6, fully restored, arguably the most famous/historic of the six, this American Legend has it all! Phoenix kicked of the national tour in style over at Bob Bondurant's Racing school of High Performance Driving. After carefully pulling the car out of the shipping truck, Bondurant relived the 1965 FIA clinching victory in Reims, France by taking a hot lap with the near priceless car. Special thanks to David NewhardtPhotography and Mecum Auction for these pictures. Big Trouble at Unique Performance

posted by pikesan

By now, this isn't breaking news, but I just heard it. I thought I kept up with hot rod and general car news, but I guess not. On top of that, I'm a big fan of Chip Foose. There are several good blogs that are writing about this story. Basically, Unique Performance has been busted and raided. Check it out: Shelby severing ties with Unique Performance Round 2: Unique Performance fires back at Shelby Foose Cuts All Ties With Unique Performance Unique Performance raided by local police What a mess! Uniqueperformance.com website is DOWN... I'll try to update this story as I follow it. I hope Foose's name is cleared. Everything I've seen or read says he's a solid guy. The NY Times added this: A Cloud Over Reborn Shelby...
