World's Fastest Model T Powered Car, V4F/BFS

Joel Young of Phoenix, AZ set a new world record of 160.166 mph for Model T powered Streamliner in class Vintage 4 cylinder Flathead engines under 220 cu. in. (Blown Fuel Streamliner) at the Bonneville Salt Flat, Speed Week August 8th thru 14th, 2009

Summary:
Saturday afternoon was tech inspection. The car went through with no issues, only comments on how well the car was prepared.

Sunday morning we made the first run and Joel discovered he could not shift into third gear and he turned out early. The decision was made to get back in line and make another attempt, but if he could not make the shift, to complete the run anyway. Joel was not able to make the shift and this run resulted in a speed of 122.079 mph. Because this speed was fast enough to break the record, we decided to go ahead and put the car in impound for the night and make the backup run in second gear on Monday morning. This run resulted in a speed of 131.959 mph for an average speed for the two runs of 127.049 mph, a new record. We then moved the car to tech to get the engine sealed so we could continue to run, otherwise, we would have to pull the head to get the engine displacement checked. We returned to the pits to adjust the shifter so Joel could get third and fourth gears and put the car back in line to make another run Monday afternoon. This run resulted in a speed of 166.264 mph for a new top speed, 6 hour after setting the first record. The car was placed in impound and prepped for the backup run Tuesday morning. This run resulted in a speed of 153.968 mph for an average of 160.116 mph, a new record. We attribute the slower speed on the backup run to a bad start and slick salt. We then moved the car back to tech and pulled the head to make it an official record and we were done. Other than the shifting problem, the car performed flawlessly and the goal was exceeded with minimal effort at the event.
