Say that 10 times fast!! Insulation Installation!!

Fresh off a Goodguys “Dropped and Chopped” win in at the 2008 Goodguys Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale, my buddy Keith did a how to on installing sound and heat insulation. OK, maybe I guilted him into it, but who cares! I’m gonna need some help with this stuff myself if I ever get back to work on my 63 Falcon wagon.

The project is his 1951 Kaiser Manhattan Custom. When you see the work Keith’s done on this car, you’ll know why it won the award. A down-right UGLY 4 door Kaiser was transformed into a unique and super stylish low riding custom. Without paint and the pile of details still inside Keith’s head waiting to get out, this car is already turning heads everywhere it goes.

The made in the USA insulation material is from LoBucRod.com. Mike and Kelly at Low-Buck-Rod are enthusiasts themselves and great people to work with. They’ve gone out of their way to help me and Keith, so we’re returning the favor.

Documenting the installation was easy using the “How To” tool that’s in every member’s garage at MyRideisMe.com. Share your knowledge with the web starting with the Tools List, then the parts needed, then add text and pictures to finish it off.

Here’s the first part of the install and the rest can be found here: Insulation Installation

Tools List :

  • Cheap Harbor Freight paint gun
  • Paint brush (throw away)
  • Razor blade
  • Straight edge
  • Tape measure
  • Sharpie
  • Paint Respirator
  • Rubber Gloves
Parts List :

  • http://www.lobucrod.com/ link

Steps:

  • Measure (this step shown in the garage)
  • Trim to fit (this step shown in the garage)
  • Apply glue to the body

Shake the glue can to ensure it is uniformly mixed and fill your el-cheapo paint gun.

Being careful to not spray glue on everything, spray a single, even coat of the glue in the area where you will install the insulation. This stuff is strong so be careful where it sprays. Wear a paint respirator and rubber gloves!

You can also use a throw-away paint brush to apply the glue in hard to spray areas.

Don’t miss any of the details. There’s 7 easy to follow steps to keeping your feet from boiling in the hot Arizona summer. Follow the Insulation Installation by going to Keith’s Garage here:Heat and sound insulation How to

Thanks Keith!
